Card Making Do Not Do List

We have compiled this Card Making Do Not Do List to help avoid some of the common mistakes we have all probably done or will do in our card making.

The list is currently very short and we welcome your suggestions. Please use the Contact Us Form at the top of the Right Hand Column to provide us some more Hand Made Card Advice and you just might receive a small Thank You Gift for helping us add to this page. This might be some Rubber Stamps, a Stamp Pad, or some Bead Embellishments.

Mailing Hand Made Cards - Don’t make them too big or heavy - check with post office about size and weight.

I recently made some A2 cards (4 1/4 x 5 1/2) and I had used brads on them to attach some paper flowers. I knew they would need hand cancelling so as not to get caught in the postal machinery, so I took them to the post office and purchased postage to accommodate the hand cancelling. The regular postage was $.44 and the additional for the hand cancelling was $.20 more. This was not a problem for me as I knew it was coming, but just be aware of this.

Don't make too many layers for those cards that will be mailed as you don't want to have to add additional postage ... more on Card Making Tutorials

Card Structure - Don’t cover the creases with paper or mesh. Once you open and close the card a few times, the paper or mesh may just come off the crease area and pull off the rest of the card. Instead, cut the paper or mesh just to edge of the card.

If you are covering your card stock with patterned paper, align the outer paper covering up to the seams so your card won’t buckle or fall apart in your recipients hands.

If you are adding several layers of embellishments, make sure you use a proper and strong adhesive to attach each separate item. How embarrassing when your recipient turns the card over to see your hallmark on the back and the card has fallen apart. ... more card making ideas at Video Card Making Tutorials
