Decorative Craft Scissors
While Decorative Craft Scissors, Paper Edgers or Paper Shapers are not new to the world of Scrapbooking or Cardmaking, they can be a good old standby for a quick and easy embellishment.
These layouts above and below used some Decorative Edge Scissors to edge the photo mattes in a shape that would duplicate the shape at the top of the castle walls and as luck would have it, the same shape as in the printed background paper from Club Scrap's Renaissance Kit from February 2003.
All of the Decorative Craft Scissors come with their cutting pattern design printed on the side of the blade.
If you purchase these one at a time in a package, usually the package will have on the back a number of shapes that can be achieved from the pair of scissors.
All of these Decorative Craft Scissors that I have will cut with both right and left hand grips so you don't need to struggle if you are a lefty.
Here are some examples, all cut from the one pair of Decorative Edge Scissors.
You can do a one-time cut across the edge of piece of paper for a simple design. For the second design turn the scissors over.
Then you can do parallel cuts with the design of the blade in the same position maintaining the same distance from the first cut. The second design is the same principle, just turn the scissors over.
Or, you can do a mirror edge, cutting the paper in a parallel cut, but turning the paper over or upside down so the outside of the blade faces the opposite of it's first cut, turn the scissors over, or cut the same direction but with the scissors in the other hand.
Or you can offset the second cut from the first cut to achieve an even different effect.
Or, combine an edge type and add some punches to it like in this example.
Here are three sets of Decorative Craft Scissors that you can purchase directly from Dick Blick Art. The first two are sets of 12 different cuts each for Set A & B, then the third set combines those two sets A & B into all 24 decorative cuts.
If you can get that many different looks with just one pair of scissors, just think what you could do with an entire set of Decorative Cutters & Edgers. If you don't have a die cutting machine or any of the border punches, these scissors make a great and inexpensive addition to your scrapbooking, card making and paper crafting tools. Since you are purchasing directly from Dick Blick, prices will be on their web site.
Or, if you have collected a lot of Decorative Craft Scissors, like I have over the past few years, here's a great Wire Scissors Rack to store them all in one location and easily reach them; you can see the design on the edge and take them all with you when you need to go someplace else - like a crop! A great way to store your Decorative Cutters & Edgers.
